Bend, Oregon - NorthWest Crossing today announced that the two newest buildings in its neighborhood center have won the Grand Award for Green Building in the 2008 Awards of Excellence administered by the National Commercial Builders Council (NCBC) of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).

“To be recognized through a national awards program for our green building efforts is a great affirmation of what we are striving to accomplish at NorthWest Crossing,” said David Ford, general manager of NorthWest Crossing. “Building our newest neighborhood center buildings to LEED standards was right in line with our philosophy of sustainability for the community as a whole. This award is just icing on the cake.”

The two buildings submitted for the award, which are located on the south side of NW Crossing Drive across from NorthWest Crossing Realty, had implemented several “green” features including:

  • Extra insulation
  • Thermopane windows and doors
  • Low flow toilets
  • Motion detector water faucets
  • Motion detector light fixtures
  • Maximized natural lighting
  • High-efficiency fluorescent lighting
  • 95% efficient gas-fired furnaces
  • 10Kw photovoltaic system installed on roof
  • Drought tolerant, low water landscape design with drip irrigation system

The Awards of Excellence program recognizes achievements in the national commercial building industry in design, market appeal, energy efficiency, challenges faced during building, and overall success of the project.
