Community Contributions

Community spirit is an important component of the Brooks Resources corporate philosophy. Brooks Resources Corporation donates at least 3% of its pre-tax profits to Central Oregon charitable endeavors each year. The Bend Foundation, a philanthropic organization established by Brooks-Scanlon, Inc and shareholders of Brooks-Scanlon and Brooks Resources, was established by Brooks Resources to help support local programs such as Art in Public Places, the Cascade Festival of Music, the High Desert Museum, the Bend Park System, among many other programs vital to the cultural heartbeat of the area.

Employees are encouraged to volunteer in the community including board positions, non-profit work and time spent in schools, such as the SMART program and School-to-Work Alliance.

A Contribution Committee comprised of employees from the various Brooks entities reviews and recommends contribution requests. Brooks also has an employee matching contribution program whereby cash contributions made by employees to non profit organizations are matched dollar-for-dollar by the company up to $1,000 per year.

The unique giving program established at North Rim, one of the company's development projects, illustrates how charitable giving truly lies at the core of Brooks Resources Corporation. As part of its commitment to preserving the natural Central Oregon environment, North Rim has formed a partnership with The Oregon Community Foundation (OCF) for the environmental improvement of the Deschutes River. This innovative model of philanthropy donates a percentage of all North Rim homesite sales to the “North Rim Deschutes River Fund” at OCF. From the fund, charitable contributions will be made in order to improve stream flow and water quality of the Deschutes River Basin. A board of directors, comprised of individuals from the North Rim Homeowners Association, consults and advises on the allocation of monies in the fund.

Another unique program that was the first of its kind in Central Oregon is the Brooks Resources Commute Options program. Not only does this program save the environment by promoting alternative forms of transportation, but it also gives back financially to the community. The company worked with Commute Options for Central Oregon to develop this program, which allows employees to earn points which can be redeemed through Brooks Resources. The company then can donate money to the employee's charity of choice. Each time a BRC employee saves a car trip from home to work, he or she earns one point. He or she can choose from a wide variety of options, such as biking, walking, carpooling or teleworking when possible. Once a person has reached 30 points he or she turns in a certificate of completion. This certificate can be redeemed with BRC for $60 toward a 501 C3 charity of choice.
